Arts Commission Adds New Mural to Downtown Ferndale
The Ferndale Arts Commission has completed their latest mural in downtown. This new art piece is on the back of the Washington Federal bank building facing Alder Street and was installed by local artist and Ferndale resident Jennifer Dunn.
“I didn’t know it would be a goal of mine to bring joy on this level to a town, let alone the town I’ve had the pleasure of being a resident for two decades,” said Dunn. “I sincerely hope this lighthearted mural filled with fish, joy and a fun change in perspective brings as much joy to our community as I had in creating it.”
The Ferndale Arts Commission has added several new murals to the Downtown Core over the last two years and has a few more murals currently in progress. The murals have been funded with private donations, a Project Neighborly grant from the Whatcom Community Foundation and city funds.
For more information on local artist Jennifer Dunn, check out her Instagram page here or see more of her pieces available in FrinGe Brewing.
On Tuesday, November 3rd from 8am-3pm, traffic will be impacted to accommodate boring for soil samples in the west-bound turn lane of Main Street adjacent to the bridge.
Traffic controls will be in place and flaggers will facilitate traffic through the area. Drivers are encouraged to utilize alternative routes if possible.
For more information, please contact Ferndale Public Works at (360) 384-4006.
With so many Ferndale voters turning in their ballots at the ballot drop box adjacent to city hall, the City has installed traffic directional devices to help make sure everyone completes the journey safely. We are calling this the Ballot Express.
Voters are encouraged to enter the parking lot adjacent to the library and then take an immediate left, proceed to the ballot box, drop their ballots and then exit onto Fourth Avenue. This flow of traffic will ensure everyone can move safely and efficiently through the parking lot.
For questions about ballots and elections, please contact the Whatcom County Auditor at 360-778-5100.

Ferndale Police Seek Public’s Help Identifying Burglary Suspects
On 10/27/2020, Officers from the Ferndale Police Department, Deputies from the Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office and Officers from Bellingham Police Department responded to two attempted burglaries of a marijuana retail store in the 6100 block of Portal Way.
During both events, two males who appear to be Caucasian attempted to kick in the door of the marijuana retail store. The first incident occurred at approximately 00:51 hours on 10/27/2020. WCSO deputies responded with a K-9 but a track was unsuccessful. The suspects were not able to make entry but caused significant damage to the door and door frame. The store owner responded and repaired the door.
At approximately 04:55 hours the two subjects returned and again attempted to kick down the door to make entry. They were unsuccessful for a second time and fled on foot out of camera view. Bellingham officers responded with a K-9 but a track was again unsuccessful.
Ferndale Police Department is seeking help from citizens in identifying the two would-be burglars.
Still shots from video surveillance of the two subjects have been provided by the store owner. One suspect was wearing what is believed to be a muted Chicago Bulls hat and a Seattle Seahawks drawstring backpack. He is also wearing a hooded sweatshirt with a unique logo on the front. The second suspect is wearing a red drawstring backpack and a Nike Air fanny pack.
If you have any information to assist in identifying either of these suspects, please contact Officer Brown at (360) 483-5731 or via email at sbrown@ferndalepd.org.
This document is an initial draft, initially uploaded on October 28th, 2020 and will continue to be updated as part of the budgeting process until it is approved by Council before the end of 2020.
