Remote Meeting Notice – Monday, June 21, 2021 City Council Meeting

The City Council meeting at 5:00 p.m. on Monday,  June 21, 2021  (note the time change from the regular start time of 6:00 p.m.) will be held remotely via Microsoft Teams, with staff and Councilmembers accessing the meeting from individual locations. This complies with Governor Jay Inslee’s Proclamation 20-28, as extended until further notice.

This is still an open public meeting as defined by the Open Public Meetings Act. The City will be using Microsoft Teams to livestream the council meeting. Members of the public do not need to download anything to view the proceedings. To join the meeting, click here.

Included in Monday’s meeting is a public hearing regarding the Shoreline Master Program. Members of the public who wish to  provide comment for either of the public hearings may do so by one of the following methods:

  1. Email City Administrator/Acting Community Development Director Jori Burnett (joriburnett@cityofferndale.org) prior to the meeting.
  2. Phone in when the Mayor announces the opening of the public hearing. 360-685-2373
  3. In person at the City Hall Main Conference Room, 2095 Main Street. There is limited capacity for in-person attendance. Those wishing to offer a comment in person will be required to wear a face mask and observe social distancing requirements.

Members of the public who wish to submit comments on items not on the agenda are encouraged to submit written comments to City Clerk Susan Duncan by emailing susanduncan@cityofferndale.org. Comments received prior to 4:30 p.m. Monday, June 21, 2021 will be read during the public comment period of the meeting and included in the meeting record. With the installation of new COVID safety measures complete, the Ferndale City Hall and Police Station will be open to the public for full business hours, 8:30AM-4:30PM Monday through Friday, starting June 14th.

“We appreciate the public’s patience while we made the modifications necessary, and we are ready to once again assist our community in person,” said Mayor Greg Hansen. The reopening is well in advance of the statewide reopening, currently scheduled for June 30th for all public facilities.

City staff has continued to work throughout the pandemic, accessible via email, phone and video conferencing to meet the needs of the public. The city recently launched a new utility billing portal to allow for more transparency, allowing for even more remote access to city documents.

Traffic Impact – Malloy Avenue & Thornton Street – 1 Week Impact

Malloy Avenue will be closed to all traffic at Thornton Street between Monday, June 14th and Friday, June 18th

The intersection of Malloy Avenue and Thornton Street will be closed to north and southbound traffic next week. During the closure, northbound traffic will be detoured from Malloy Avenue at Seamount Drive and directed onto Vista Drive (truck traffic will be detoured onto Vista Drive at the roundabout). Southbound traffic will be detoured from Malloy Avenue at Aldergrove Road and onto Vista Drive. East and westbound traffic on Thornton Street will be flagged through the work area, but will not be permitted to turn onto Malloy Avenue during the closure. Details are shown on the attached map.

This closure is necessary to allow construction crews to pave Thornton Street from Malloy Avenue to Shelby Court in association with the Thornton Overpass project. The next meeting of the Equity Advisory Committee is scheduled for Tuesday, June 8, 2021, beginning at 5:00 p.m. The meeting will be held remotely via Microsoft Teams, with staff and committee members accessing the meeting from individual locations. This complies with Governor Jay Inslee’s Proclamation 20-28, as extended until further notice.

Ferndale Police Seek Public Assistance Identifying Downtown Vandals

Ferndale Police Department is seeking assistance in identifying the subjects in the video above.

At approximately midnight on 5/23/2021, a male subject and his female companion were recorded on surveillance cameras in the 1900 block of Main Street and 5600 block of 3rd Ave.  The male subject is recorded damaging a tree in one video and taking a chair which was later found damaged in another.

Ferndale Police has probable cause for the unidentified male and would like to contact the female about her involvement.
