Drivers should expect delays as a small section of Portal Way, between Trigg Rd and Kaas Rd, will be reduced to single lane alternating traffic from Thursday, February 15th – Wednesday, February 21st. The traffic revision is in effect weekdays between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Flaggers will be­­ onsite to direct traffic.

LaBounty Drive, between Smith Road and Slater Road

Drivers should expect delays as traffic is reduced to single lane alternating traffic near 5170 LaBounty Drive between Smith Road and Slater Road. The traffic revision is for Tuesday, February 6th, 2024. The traffic revision is in effect from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Flaggers will be onsite to direct traffic. This is expected to be a one-day project.

EXTENDED W Smith Rd will be CLOSED to through traffic between Barrett Rd and Northwest Dr

The closure of W Smith Rd has been extended. Much of the remaining work is weather dependent and the forecast for next week does not look promising. We are hoping to complete work during the next stretch of dry days.

Expect longer commute times and delays as W Smith Rd. will be CLOSED to through traffic between Barrett Rd. and Northwest Dr. beginning on Monday, October 30th. Barricades will be in place at four intersections as shown on the graphic. Through traffic will detour via Barrett Rd, Main St/Axton Rd, and Northwest Dr. Residents and businesses inside the closure zone will be able to access their homes and businesses. The closure is in effect 7 day per week, 24 hours a day for the duration of the project.

This closure is for work associated with the City of Ferndale’s Pump Station 15 Decommissioning Project.

2024 Stormwater Management Plan Update

Each year the City of Ferndale updates the Stormwater Management Program Plan as a response to specific special conditions within the “Western Washington Phase II Municipal Stormwater Permit” that authorizes the City of Ferndale to discharge stormwater.

Per the Permit, this program summary will be updated each year and will be available to the public. Participation and comments are welcome and may be directed to City of Ferndale Stormwater staff stormwater@cityofferndale.org. The comment period for the 2024 Stormwater Management Program Plan was November 28, 2023 to December 28, 2023. No comments were received.

Drivers should plan to detour as a short section of Ferndale Terrace, between Shannon Ave and Sherry Pl, will be CLOSED for utility work. This traffic revision is in effect Tuesday, November 14th through Thursday, November 16th. The closure hours are from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM each day. Residents in the work zone will have access in and out of their homes. The roadway will be reopened at the end of each workday.

Permanent Traffic Revision: Thornton St. and Malloy Ave. Intersection

A major change is coming to the intersection at Thornton St. and Malloy Ave. Starting next week, the stop signs at the intersection will be switched so that north and southbound traffic on Malloy Ave. must stop while traffic on Thornton St. will be free flowing. Drivers are urged to use caution as everyone adjusts to the changes. Flashing stop signs will be installed to heighten visibility of the revision.

This is the first of several changes planned for area traffic. This traffic revision is being implemented ahead of the opening of the new overpass to allow drivers to adjust to the new traffic pattern.

Drivers should use caution near the intersection of Thornton St. and Pacific Heights Dr. as work continues on the Thornton Heights Project. Both lanes remain open but please be alert for work vehicles and crews in the area. This traffic notice is in effect from 7AM to 7PM weekdays starting Monday, October 23. More extensive traffic revisions such as lane shifts, or lane closures will be noticed separately.

Shannon Ave. from Ferndale Terrace to Fieldview Dr. AND Ferndale Terrace near the intersection with Shannon Ave.

Drivers should expect slowdowns and congestion as work begins on a project near the intersection of Shannon Ave and Ferndale Terrace. The active worksite will shift between a northern location on Ferndale Terrace and a southern location off Shannon Ave near Fieldview Dr. At times, work will require a single lane road closure. Lane closures will be signed, and flaggers will be deployed when necessary. Residents in the work zones will have access in and out of their homes. The current traffic revision is in effect from Monday, October 16th – Friday, October 20th, from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.

Notice of Traffic Revision: Friday, September 22nd and Saturday, September 23rd, 2023

Thornton Street at the Intersection of Vista Drive and Thornton Street

Both westbound and eastbound Thornton Street will be closed for paving at and around the intersection of Thornton and Vista. This is in addition to the standing closure of Thornton Street between Vista and Malloy. West of Vista, traffic can detour via Maureen Dr and Robyn Dr. East of Vista, traffic will continue to use their regular detour routes. This is closure is in effect Friday, September 22nd and Saturday, September 23rd. The traffic revision will last from Friday afternoon through Saturday whenever crews are actively working.

Vista Drive will remain open for northbound and southbound traffic during this process.

This work is part of the City of Ferndale’s Thornton: Vista to Malloy improvement project.
