Drivers should expect delays as a portion of the South side of the parking lot at Walgreens will be closed to traffic on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 7:00am to 7:00pm. Detour signs are set up to direct traffic. This closure is to complete improvements associated with a private development project.

Alder Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue

Drivers should expect potential delays and consider alternate routes as Alder Street between Second Avenue and Third Avenue will be closed to thru traffic beginning on Monday, July 9, 2018 from 7am to 7pm.  Westbound traffic will be detoured via Second Avenue to Maple Street to Third Avenue. Eastbound traffic will be detoured via Third Avenue to Maple Street to Second Avenue. This road closure is to complete street improvements associated with a private development project. Alder Street will reopen during non-working hours.

City Clerk Susan Duncan Receives Certified Public Records Officer Designation

City Clerk Susan Duncan who handles records management, public records requests, human resources and serves as clerk for the City, has completed the Washington Association of Public Records Officers program to become a Certified Public Records Officer (CPRO). The certification demonstrates a personal commitment and dedication to administering the Washington State Public Records Act (RCW 42.56).

To become certified, an applicant must complete over thirty hours of training covering topics as diverse as legal updates, electronic records and technology, open government sessions and more. Duncan, who completed the Certified Municipal Clerk program for the International Institute of Municipal Clerks in 2016, and now serves on their executive board of their Washington State chapter.

“Susan is an incredible resource,” said Mayor Jon Mutchler. “She knows the rules and law governing our city business forwards and backwards. We depend on her skills and expertise and appreciate her unyielding dedication.”

Wastewater Local Improvement District (LID) General and Specific Benefit Study

The City of Ferndale is seeking a certified real estate appraiser to complete a two-stage special benefit study for a proposed Local Improvement District (LID) extending wastewater service to the Grandview Area in north Ferndale.

The services shall be in two stages – the first phase being a general special benefit appraisal to determine the overall financial feasibility of extending the utility to the area and the benefited property areas ability to support the cost of the project.

The second phase would be an individual property specific benefit appraisal analysis to determine the benefit area preliminary assessments. Financial feasibility in the first phase will determine if the second phase is warranted. The City has completed the preliminary design for the Grandview Sewer Extension, North Malloy Avenue to Portal Way.

Please submit the following information:

  1. Overall experience and qualifications in completing LID appraisals as well as specific experience related to wastwater extension LID appraisals
  2. Planned schedule, milestones, project team and anticipated completion date

The City will rank submission on the following criteria:

  1. Project understanding
  2. Experience and qualifications of the firm and project team
  3. LID appraisal experience with similar projects

Announcing the Great Ferndale Midsummer Mystery Jul. 1st-24th

Announcing the Great Ferndale Midsummer Mystery July 1st – 24th

Thanks to a Project Neighborly grant from the Whatcom Community Foundation, the City of Ferndale is able to host the Great Ferndale Midsummer Mystery, a city-wide scavenger hunt from July 1st -24th. Similar to the Great Ferndale Treasure Hunt last year, this adventure encourages residents to meet their neighbors, explore their city and solve the mystery of who stole the spirit of Ferndale!

To participate, grab a scorecard which can be downloaded by clicking here, or found at City Hall or at Food Truck Fridays (June 1st and July 6th) at Star Park. The scorecard keeps track of the clues found and the points earned.

Clues will be distributed through the City’s facebook page (found here), twitter account (found here) and posted at City Hall, the Ferndale Library and the Ferndale Visitor Center. The first clue will be released Sat. July 1st, and then after that it is every Tuesday and Friday until July 20th.

All participants will receive a prize, but the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will also receive a cash prize, 4th-6th place winners will receive gift certificates and everyone who participates will feel a sense of accomplishment and fun.
