Notice of Traffic Revision and Possible Delays: Monday, August 22nd through Friday, August 26th

LaBounty Drive, between Les Schwab Tire Center and Smith Road

Drivers should expect delays as traffic is reduced to single lane traffic on LaBounty Drive, between the Les Schwab Tire Center and Smith Road beginning Monday, August 22nd and lasting through Friday, August 26th. Daily lane closures between the hours of 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM. Flaggers will be onsite to direct traffic. Road will remain open during nonworking hours. This work is to complete paving associated with a private development project.

Ferndale Hires Rachel Moothart as new Finance Director

The City is excited to introduce Rachel Moothart as our new Finance Director. Moothart comes from the private sector where she is the Accounting Manager for Syndel, an international aquaculture manufacturer based out of Ferndale. Her professional experience includes serving as the financial controller for Woodstone Corporation in Bellingham. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting as well as a Master of Business Administration in business and accounting.

“We believe that Rachel has the right mix of professional experience and a passion for public service that will help her excel serving our community,” said Mayor Greg Hansen. Moothart’s contract was approved by the City Council at their August 15th council meeting. Her first day is Sept. 2nd.

“This is a great opportunity,” said Moothart. “I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and get to work on behalf of the people of Ferndale.”

As finance director, she will be responsible for overseeing the finance department which develops the annual budget, manages the annual audit and investments, provides revenue and expenditure projections, maintains fiscal controls and oversees utility billing.

Paving of Axton and Slater Road Scheduled for Aug. 22nd-26th

The public works crew will be performing pavement maintenance the week of Aug 22nd. Crews will be working on Axton Road on Mon-Weds (Aug. 22-24) and then Slater Road on Thurs-Friday. Traffic will be reduced to one lane while the paving is in process. Please follow all traffic directions and utilize alternative routes if possible. Thank you for your patience!

NOTICE TO BIDDERS: Sealed bids will be received from contractors by the Public Works Director, City of Ferndale, until 2:00 PM, Wednesday, August 31, 2022 for the Ferndale Church Road Water Pump Station Upgrade. Hand delivered bids should be delivered to the second floor of City Hall (2095 Main Street, Ferndale WA 98248); however, mailed bids are to be addressed to City of Ferndale, P.O. Box 936, Ferndale WA 98248. All bids shall be received in sealed envelopes with “FERNDALE CHURCH RD WATER PS UPGRADE” marked plainly thereon. The Project involves the proposed water pump station upgrades per contract documents. Said bids will then and there be opened and read aloud. Bidders and other properly interested parties are invited to be present at the bid opening. Bids received after the time fixed for opening cannot be considered.

A deposit in the form of a postal money order, cashier’s check, or bond in the amount of 5% of the greatest amount bid must be submitted with each bid proposal.  Should the successful bidder fail to enter into a contract or furnish a satisfactory contract bond within the time stated in the specifications, the deposit shall be forfeited to the City.

There will be A non-mandatory, pre-bid meeting for the Project held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, August 24th, 2022, at City Hall, 2095 Main Street, Ferndale, WA 98248.  A site visit to the Ferndale Church Rd Water Pump Station site will follow the meeting.

The City shall reject any bid not accompanied by bid security.
